"We support the report on the Green Paper on market-based instruments for environment and related policy purposes,, as it addresses many of the mechanisms which can be used to protect or improve the environment, e.g. emissions rights trading, the polluter pays principle and a reform of the subsidies which are harmful to the environment.
However, we reject the idea of introducing a ‘CO
card’ for individuals and SMEs, on which their energy consumption and level of greenhouse gas emissions is recorded. Firstly, we consider that the practical difficulties pose an obstacle in themselves. We also consider that the proposal conflicts with personal privacy and freedom, especially as no justification is given as to why this data is to be collected or what it will be used for.
We also reject the proposal on CO
duties. Free trade means that the earth’s resources are used as efficiently as possible. The focus should be on international treaties on the environment."@en1
