"Mr President, the posting of workers is indissolubly linked to the freedom to provide services. By its decision, the Court of Justice supported this, in my view, supremely important principle of the common market. I would, however, like to express my disenchantment with the fact that regulations still exist in the Community market that are out of line with the Posting of Workers Directive. Let us not forget that the Directive is aimed at helping both workers and contractors. Situations in which key provisions of the Directive are interpreted differently in the different Member States are also inadmissible. Workers are not aware of their rights, and Member States do not monitor whether the provisions of the Directive are being correctly applied. Proper implementation and execution of these provisions is, after all, key to the efficient functioning of the internal market. This is why all measures, whether in the form of administrative cooperation or of pointers to the proper application of the Directive, are essential actions. I do hope, however, that the result of such initiatives will be an improvement in the interpretation of the provisions, and not yet more complaints about non-existent social dumping."@en1
