"I would like to contribute to the discussion by pointing out that in the context of all policies there should be a more clearly defined space for small and medium enterprises, which represent the backbone of Europe’s employment stability. Much still needs to be done, especially in new Member States’ parliaments, where the concept of flexicurity − a flexible labour market − is still to be put into practice so that companies can react better to new challenges and be able to offer a greater number of new positions.
Moreover, our motto should be to give priority to the small, but when it comes to individual directives and regulations, the Commission’s analysis of their impact on small enterprises is lacking. We do usually have, on the other hand, impact studies prepared by supranational companies. I welcome the proposed Small Businesses Act and I trust that we will move beyond the stage of ideas so that in the European elections we will be able to say to the European citizens that we have fulfilled our objective of achieving a more effective and secure economic area."@en1
