". Information from the register of activities shows that the Ombudsman received complaints in 2006. The Ombudsman, however, felt that only of these cases fell within his remit, of which led to an inquiry. In 2006 the Ombudsman carried out inquiries in total, of which were already under way in 2005 and were launched on the Ombudsman’s own initiative. Interestingly, as in previous years the institutional body which was the subject of most inquiries was the Commission, which accounted for of the total (387). This was followed by the European Personnel Selection Office (EPSO), which accounted for and then the European Parliament, which accounted for . The most common complaint was lack of transparency, including refusal of information ( ), followed by unfairness or abuse of power and a variety of other types of maladministration. However, as stated by the Ombudsman himself, there are many cases in which his critical remarks clearly have no effect, but they are without doubt a warning that problems exist, and Parliament should therefore pay them due attention."@en1
