Europe has led the way to a position where enormous strides have been made in equality, all the way across the Union. One particular area of progress has been in public protection services, in particular in the fire services. Yet in my own constituency, despite massive protests by the Fire Brigades Union and the public, these advances are under threat as the Liberal-controlled County Council is threatening to cut GBP 700 000 from the budget, ending 24-hour fire cover in the last two remaining fire stations in Camborne and Falmouth, while they pay themselves an extra GBP 1 million a year in allowances."@en1
