"I am voting in favour of the report by Mrs Buitenweg on the implementation of the principle of equal treatment between persons irrespective of racial or ethnic origin.
Mrs Buitenweg has prepared an excellent report. Despite the progress in transposing anti-discrimination directives, there has still been no reduction in the number of victims of racial or ethnic discrimination.
Making it easier to pursue one’s rights through the courts and assistance with the legal process are very important issues, to which the rapporteur referred.
I also believe that it is very important to make information on the rights of EU citizens widely available, as rights are of little use if people do not know about them or do not know how they can benefit from them. In order to deal with this situation at work, employers in Poland have been obliged to inform their employees about anti-discrimination legislation.
We must ensure that, in the context of the European Year of Equal Opportunities, both European Union institutions and Member States should make every effort to ensure that every person in Europe knows about their rights."@en1
