"Mr President, I voted in support of this resolution because I believe in equal treatment between persons, irrespective of their racial or ethnic origin. And I believe in equality in this House, so I believe that it is people’s rights to put down amendments that do not support that. But I am still, nevertheless, surprised at the string of amendments that some Members of this House have voted to support which are contrary to the principle of equal treatment for minorities and I am surprised equally that some people abstained on those votes.
This because I think the fundamental principle of the European Union is one where we respect minorities, we respect people from all different backgrounds, and I think it is an impulse of ours that we should support these, whatever."@en1
