Junilistan considers that a mandate from the UN is what is needed for a country or an intergovernmental organisation to send peacekeeping forces to conflict areas. We have in principle no objections to Member States joining together and sending troops under a peacekeeping mandate, provided that the operation is conducted under the flag of the UN and not of the EU.
It is, however, depressing that the prevailing situation in Chad and the Central African Republic is used as a pretext for the EU’s ambition to create a military strength at Union level. Foreign and security policy are and must remain strictly national concerns."@en1
