"Mr President, I agree with Mr Van Orden and the others – having regard also to the presence of Mr Wang Yingfan and the delegation – that this House should send out an emphatic signal. In relation to paragraph 5, however, we would request amending the text as follows, because after looking at what has occurred in the past in the Security Council we are not sure we drafted the text quite carefully enough. It is because we want to be very precise that we ask that paragraph 5 be reworded as follows: ‘Asks China fully to support a clear statement of the United Nations Security Council condemning the use of brutal force’ It remains to be seen whether the veto has already been applied, but we do ask the House to agree that we need a clear condemnation from the Security Council and that China should support it."@en1
