"Mr President, it is clear that, in the 21st century, no one can do other than support the struggle against discrimination. I too am in favour of this report, although I believe that prejudices are based on culture, civilisation and religion, rather than race or ethnicity. I would like to add, by the way, that it would be easier for us in Europe to abide by principles of non-discrimination if we introduced controlled immigration policies for people that we wanted in our countries, as, in principle, no one will act in an aggressive and unfriendly manner to a partner that they chose themselves.
This report basically speaks about the rights of immigrants. However, let us also consider their responsibilities. It would be easier not to show discrimination to foreigners and people from other cultures if they showed respect for the culture and traditions of the people in the country to which they have come, and if they showed a desire to integrate and did not create a state within a state in our Europe, which has, and we must face the facts, its roots in Christianity."@en1
