"Mr. President, Ladies and Gentlemen, first of all, please allow me to express my appreciation of the consistency and quality of this report, as well as to point out the importance of the subject for the improvement of people’s lives and the development of communities. In my speech, I would like to draw attention to the importance of education in implementing the European principles and provisions in the field of equality of treatment for individuals. The report correctly emphasizes the fact that laws are effective only when citizens are aware of their own rights. It still remains a requirement to inform citizens, but also to educate them in order to respond; in fact, in order for them to defend themselves. It is only when people have the courage to speak, write and resort to their rights that discrimination phenomena can be limited. At the same time, education for tolerance is extremely important for the survival of any community. Learning to live with other people, to accept differences not like a fatality, but like an opportunity to build the whole, means following the right path towards eradicating this type of phenomena."@en1
