"There may be debate later about what I want to say. In 2002 former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán appeared before the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs. He stated that the decrees of President Beneš were incompatible with EU law. The European Commission subsequently carried out an analysis of this matter. The conclusion was that the European Commission considers the issue of the decrees of President Beneš to be resolved and closed. As a result of constant efforts to open up these decrees, last week the National Council of the Slovak Republic adopted a resolution on the inviolability of post-war documents. The resolution, which condemns the principle of collective guilt, was supported by members of the coalition and opposition parties. History cannot be reversed or changed. A situation that occurred in exceptional circumstances must be viewed in the context of the time in which it occurred. Challenging and revising the post-war order of Europe is not what the majority of progressive and positive thinking Europeans expect of us. Our common aim is peace, cooperation and resolution of the problems facing people who live in the here and now."@en1
