"Mr President, we have adopted Mr Ferber’s report on the full implementation of the internal Postal Services market. I believe that every citizen of the European Union must have the freedom to choose whose services he or she will use to send a letter, postcard or parcel.
Opening up the market will bring benefits to consumers and postal services users, and for the postal sector, particularly in the new Member States, it will mean further restructuring, cost cutting, innovation, the introduction of new services, including electronic services, and the ability to compete and stay afloat on the postal market.
Let us hope that opening up the postal services market will lead to an increase in the level of services offered, and greater customer care. More operators on the postal market means greater competition, lower prices and a greater choice of services."@en1
