lpv:translated text	"Last week an delegation of the European Parliament, of which I was a member, participated in the 5th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council. This Council, which was formed in March last year to replace the discredited and overly politicised Human Rights Commission, has to decide this week, today, on the modus operandi of this Council, its agenda-setting principles, its decision-making procedures and its Code of Ethics. Last week we were convinced that it is particularly difficult for European Union Member States that are members of this Council to fulfil their duty and try to effectively influence the governments of countries in which human rights are being systematically breached. I believe the time has come for the European Union to re-evaluate its role in the United Nations Human Rights Council and to seek new, more effective instruments in order to perform its mission successfully. Otherwise, this Council may repeat the sorry experience of the Human Rights Commission."@en1
