"The two years since the shock of the French and the Dutch referendums have been a so-called ‘pause for reflection’, but unfortunately this has meant that there was no reflection going on. The ‘pause for reflection’ meant that reflection held a pause.
The European Union is finally awakening from its Sleeping Beauty sleep, and we have moved from our impasse. Hungary has all along supported the Constitutional Treaty in its complete form, and was the second to ratify it in December 2004. Our goal is to be able to preserve as much as possible of the original text, while at the same time we are ready for sane compromise, for the improvement of the Union’s capacity to function is the most important.
There are four essential objectives that must be fulfilled: preservation of the values and aims contained in the current proposal, more effective working of the institutions, strengthening of the equality and solidarity among Member States, and the further deepening of integration.
Europe must move, if it does not want an even deeper crisis."@en1
