"Mr President, I wish to draw the attention of the House to the fact that the new Secretary-General, Harald Rømer, is grossly violating the principle of equal treatment for all Members of Parliament and the principle of a fair hearing. In proceedings that have been pending against me, there is a quite unequivocal opinion of the Director-General for Finance with crystal-clear conclusions. Mr Rømer denies its existence. That is what he is saying officially; internally, he is saying the opposite. Lies are being told.
I demand that this investigation be made public and accessible. Moreover, in these proceedings, in which I am trying to defend myself judicially, Mr Rømer is denying me access to translations of various documents held by the Secretariat-General, again on the flimsy pretext that there are allegedly no definitive official translations.
My work is also being severely obstructed by the fact that a personal assistant, who had already received a written acceptance, is being denied me in the grouping of non-attached Members.
If this type of discrimination that I have been experiencing in this House is practised against a Member of Parliament, Mr President – and you yourself are very well informed on a wide range of these matters – this Parliament cannot call itself democratic. What is happening here, and what Mr Rømer is doing, is sheer despotism."@en1
