lpv:translated text	"Mr President, there has been much discussion today about recognising Kosovo as an independent state on the basis of the will of the population living there. I do not believe that argument provides sufficient justification for independence. This is because account should be taken firstly of historical circumstances, secondly of the interests of the nation as a whole and thirdly of international order. We should recall that Kosovo is the cradle of the Serbian nation. We have all heard of the Battle of Kosovo Field. If we now proceed to recognise the independence of Kosovo on the basis of the will of its population, Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Transdinistra will soon follow hot on Kosovo’s heels. We might also have to deal with the creation of an Islamic Republic of Southern France in 2020 with its capital in Marseilles, as some predict, and with the emergence of a Paris Emirate in 2050. I feel bound to warn against the adoption of a rash decision on the basis of the will of the majority of the population resident in a particular area."@en1
