"Mr President, I would like to draw your attention to some measures taken by the Romanian Government this year aimed at improving the fight against corruption. Romania is now the first country in Europe to adopt a law that allows monitoring of the wealth of all high-level government and public officials, conflicts of interests and incompatibilities. Reforming the judiciary is not an easy task that can be tackled from one day to the next, nor can it be done by one person. Such a challenge requires strong political will, determination and collaboration between the government and the parliament. The current government is determined to continue the judiciary reform process in Romania by guaranteeing a total independence of the judiciary in full accordance with the commitments made towards our EU partners and most of all towards Romanian citizens.
I am confident that the Commission report on Romania to be presented at the end of this month will acknowledge the progress made by the Romanian Government in the judiciary reform process and in the fight against corruption."@en1
