"I would like to focus specifically on the issue of the deployment of anti-missile defence systems in Europe by the US. As someone who has been looking at the identical issue vis-à-vis Japan’s deployment of Theatre Missile Defence to ‘defend’ against the supposed threat from North Korea, I can only say we are being misled by the word ‘defence’. These deployments in Japan and Europe are intended to give the US the ability to launch a pre-emptive strike against either North Korea or Iran. They cannot work against any large-scale attack from China or Russia – not that I am suggesting there is any likelihood of that happening – but to defend against any odd remaining missile and warhead after a pre-emptive attack against a country with a limited number of missiles and warheads. The deployment of such technology in Europe will make Europe a more dangerous – rather than safer – place, in the interests of neo-con US Foreign Policy."@en1
