".
The deployment of US anti-missile defence systems in Europe is simply further evidence of the US’s commitment to the arms race and dramatic rise in military spending to support its policy of interventionism, aggression and imperialist occupation, with the support of its allies, in particular NATO.
This initiative needs to be viewed in the context of the change in NATO’s strategic concept, its enlargement to the borders of the Russian Federation and the increasingly aggressive imperialism, as evidenced by intervention in Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, Iraq and the Middle East, along with fresh threats to other sovereign states. It is an approach that, despite existing differences within the EU, will exacerbate the continent’s political divisions.
The Russian Federation is giving clear signals that the ‘red line’ is (long) out of date.
The USA’s plan to create a ‘global’ anti-missile defence system, which involves deploying new bases in Europe – radars in the Czech Republic and missiles in Poland – is coming up against increasing resistance. The rejection of the US’s intentions by the Czech and Polish people is becoming louder and louder.
We must mobilise the peace movement."@en1
