"Mr President, Mr Solana, I would like to thank you for mentioning that the highest European Union bodies are preparing to debate the location of an anti-missile system in the European Union, but, on the other hand, in my view this preparation is already too late, since it is no secret that this process is already beginning to develop in Europe and the public is becoming irritated. I think that you ought to be much more active in opposing the arguments or speculations that Russia has put forward on this issue. There is talk about a cold war, and pressure is being exerted on Poland and the Czech Republic. I think this is totally unacceptable; the European Union must adopt a clear position. Otherwise, such failed politicians as Schroeder who is, of course, in Putin’s pay, come out of the woodwork making statements that irritate the European public. I think that it is also unsatisfactory to leave this issue to be dealt with by NATO’s secretary general since, undoubtedly, the United States of America is really talking about the defence of Europe, and much less about the defence of the United States of America. The United States of America is talking about the defence of Europe! What Europe’s citizens therefore expect from you, Mr Solana, as the person responsible for carrying out Europe’s common foreign and security policy, is a clear position. This is what I also expect from you personally. Thank you."@en1
