I voted in favour of the report by Mr Meyer Pleite () on the negotiation of an EU-Central America Association Agreement because I believe that the European Union must continue to play a fundamental role in protecting the environment and human rights worldwide. This agreement must seek a balance among the three pillars – political dialogue, cooperation and trade – that makes it possible to consolidate the democratic processes in Central America, improve the efficiency of democratic institutions and administrations, combat violence, corruption and impunity, as well as human rights violations, and, finally, improve social cohesion and the living conditions of all of the region’s inhabitants."@en1
