"Mr President, I would like firstly to congratulate the Commissioner on his diligence in presenting this text which was so urgent and so necessary, and also, in particular, Mr Leichtfried, on working so hard to bring together wills and achieve a sufficient majority in Parliament.
I believe that the amendments we are proposing improve the text, amongst other things by simplifying the management of the Agency through the removal of the Executive Board, which was redundant. The independence of the Agency is guaranteed in terms of the economic aspects, conditions are established for the transparency of accounts and a system of penalties is provided for in order to ensure that they are properly applied.
Even so, it needs to be improved and I am therefore pleased with Mr Jarzembowski’s Amendment 30 which prevents disadvantages for European industry by increasing the number of helicopter passengers. I was not very happy with the presence of definitions of aircraft, but I agree that they should be extended, if they are to be included. In particular, I would like us all to support Amendments 33 and 34, which acknowledge the importance of cabin crew, who are increasingly responsible for our safety, as well as our comfort.
We must conform to that which was laid down in the EU-OPS Regulation and develop and provide excellent harmonised training, qualifications and professional and medical certification for those cabin crews."@en1
