"Mr President, I wish you the best of luck in chairing the proceedings for the first time. I hope it will be a successful debut. I look at the situation positively. Alcohol that has been confiscated and not drunk is healthier. To me there is no theoretical aspect to the issue. I am one of the millions of victims of this regulation. Like one of my predecessors, my shaving cream and deodorant have been confiscated on two occasions. At the same time, on two occasions I successfully carried a knife in my hand baggage. Granted, it was a penknife, but it was far more capable of doing damage than my shaving cream. As you can see, there is no consistency in this. In addition, the levels of restrictions vary depending on the airport. At some airports you can carry more in your hand luggage, in others less. These regulations should be identical, which would make them easier to accept. But everything is done in an atmosphere of secrecy which causes irritation and leads to obstinacy. You said that the European Commission is acting according to procedure in this matter. This may be so, but what about common sense? Unfortunately, I still have my doubts on this, and I regret to say that you have done nothing to allay my doubts."@en1
