"The rapporteur has tried to find a balance between the widely differing viewpoints in committee, which I accept is not an easy process, but I still believe that this report could, and should, be strengthened.
I will be supporting amendments tabled by my group, which aim to improve the formulation of industrial food products, to call for restrictions on the marketing of fast food, rich in sugar, fat or salt, to children, especially by TV advertising, to improve standards within schools in order to improve food and cooking knowledge, and to reduce junk food marketing within schools.
I also support the call for a ban on trans-fatty acids in industrial food production, as has recently been agreed in New York City. In the EU, more incentives could be given to improve the nutritional value of food products by promoting quality food production within the CAP and rural development policies."@en1
