"Mr President, I would like to thank the author of the question for initiating this greatly needed debate on dairy quotas. The problems associated with these quotas are a concern for farmers throughout Europe. I would like to make the point that if these quotas are to be maintained for a longer period, it raises the obvious question of how high they should be, because the sizes of milk quotas are blatantly unjust: I can cite many examples of how they do not conform to market demand in particular Member States. There are countries which are greatly damaged by quotas not being in line with their demand as consumers. Examples are Italy and Spain, while Poland, a new Member State, is definitely another one. For that reason, if the quotas need to be retained, then the size of these quotas must be reviewed for the sake of fairness and European solidarity."@en1
