"President Vladimir Putin, we are concerned about developments in Russia, and your comments about Georgia at the summit do nothing to alleviate that concern. Many of us in the EU want to see a successful Russia: an extension to a world based on democracy and justice. We want you to help those of us who wish you Russians well, but you are not doing so. We must hold out the prospect of a common free-trade area and we must work towards freedom of movement. How, President Putin, are we to do this, however, when you are giving a show of strength to a small country like Georgia? How are we to do this when you have not approved the border agreements with Estonia and Latvia? How are we to do this when you belittle the work done by Anna Politkovskaya? Our cooperation must be based on common values and ground rules but, following the summit, it now unfortunately feels as if we are further away from each other than we were before."@en1
