"(
Mr President, the trial of the Palestinian doctor and Bulgarian nurses in Libya reopened three weeks ago. The procedure chosen is a very complicated one and will make it very difficult for international organisations to help defend the rights of these persons who have been wrongly imprisoned. In fact, the procedure involves only one hearing a week. You can see how difficult it is going to be to organise their defence. Moreover, everyone knows that, materially speaking, the crimes of which they are accused are implausible and that these citizens have been held in prison and tortured for seven years.
May we therefore join together in saying to Libya that our only concern, now and in the future, is to help young Libyans who are infected with Aids. In no case, however, do we want Libya to take citizens hostage, be they from Europe or anywhere else in the world. We must say to the authorities, in the name of human rights, in the name of respect for Libya, ‘release them!’"@en1
