"Question No 48 by Dimitrios Papadimoulis () According to a Commission press release (12 April 2006) concerning competition in the payment cards industry, there are large price differentials on the internal market. Consumers pay as much as 100% more in bank charges for using MasterCard and Visa in some Member States. Furthermore, throughout the European Union, the charges paid by businesses differ by as much as 500% for Visa and 650% for MasterCard. In view of card users' complaints about the lack of transparency and high charges associated with their transactions, can the Commission say whether it is looking into the matter? Does it intend to propose any measures? Can the Commission provide a comparison of the situation on the market in Greece and that in the other Member States on the basis of the data available to it?"@en1
