"Mr President, a version of the envisaged North of Ireland Assembly has reconvened today in Belfast. The Assembly and its power-sharing executive have been suspended by the British Government since 2002. Sinn Féin is committed to seeing local ministers make local decisions. At present, British ministers make all policy decisions in the North of Ireland, yet are not accountable to voters there. It is time for Ian Paisley’s Democratic Unionist Party to move forward with the rest of us, on the basis of equality, to fully restore the North of Ireland Assembly and the power-sharing executive. The recent sectarian killing of Catholic teenager Michael McIlveen shows that much change is still needed in our society. Continued assistance and support at European level are also needed."@en1
