". In spite of the cosmetic amendments brought in at the eleventh hour and the inclusion of points with which we naturally agree, the resolution before us reveals much about the EU’s real intentions as regards its so-called ‘cooperation’ with Latin American countries. Among many other aspects that are worthy of criticism and that we reject, I wish to highlight the following: the use of so-called ‘integration’ processes – always following a model imposed by the EU – as an instrument for promoting capitalist integration and the liberalisation of trade, to the benefit of the major powers and the large economic and financial groups; the creation of the largest possible free trade areas, on the basis of bilateral and multilateral agreements, in order to attain a level of trade liberalisation that has hitherto been impossible to introduce at the WTO; the creation of a so-called ‘bi-regional conflict prevention centre’ as a means of paving the way for EU interference in Latin America (not to be reciprocated); lastly, showing lamentable consistency, the total lack of condemnation of the criminal embargo on Cuba and the USA’s extra-territorial laws against the country. In other words, this is a resolution that runs counter to the declaration made by progressive Members of Parliament from Europe and Latin America at Bregenz. Hence our vote against."@en1
