". Whilst we support the intention of Amendment 3 to alleviate the costs of healthcare and drugs for many of the poorest countries, this amendment is inappropriate as it provides for a blanket limit to all patent protections for products related to this field, which could distort markets at a global level and, potentially, harm further development. These issues are best dealt with at the level of the UN and WHO. The EPLP maintains its position on the issue of corporate taxation, which is not to support a recalculation of the corporate tax base. Whilst we seek greater coordination of tax authorities in trying to assist SMEs involved in cross-border trade, we acknowledge that this issue remains the competence of the EU Member States."@en1
