". I voted in favour of Mr Hutchinson's report on relocation, which emphasises how urgent it is for the EU to take account of the seriousness of the effects of company relocation on people and regions. We need to shed more light on the course of this phenomenon and on its consequences, and an observatory will enable us to do so. However, this also needs to go through a more restrictive legislative framework within the EU, and the inclusion of social and environmental clauses in international trade. The interests of employees and protecting jobs must be at the heart of our political concerns. This is vital if we are going to achieve the goal of full employment and the objectives of the Lisbon Strategy as recommended in 2000 – we will not be able to achieve these objectives without a European industrial policy."@en1
