The move to maintain the Shetland Box and the Plaice Box is a timely and balanced response to the review of the functioning and effectiveness of these boxes and to the consultation carried out into this area. The recommendations in this report will make it possible to defend the fundamental principles of the new common fisheries policy, namely to manage the exploitation of marine living resources in a sustainable manner whilst guaranteeing sustainable economic, environmental and social conditions.
