The aim of the EU’s economic, social and environmental renewal, as projected in the Lisbon Strategy, was to turn Europe into the most competitive and dynamic knowledge-based economy, with more and better jobs and greater social cohesion. As I wholeheartedly endorse these objectives, my concerns lie principally with the fact that European families still face inequalities in our societies. These must be fought in order to help people reconcile their work, family and private lives. This is the only way in which we can build a society geared towards lifelong education and training, at the root of which is ensuring that our citizens are knowledgeable and well-informed. I therefore voted in favour of the Estrela report."@en1
