". I have voted in favour of rejecting the directive because we had only been given the option of voting for or against the original Commission proposal. This proposal for a new Port Directive leaves a great deal to be desired in many areas. Although Mr Jarzembowski had produced a substantial and sound package of amendment proposals, there was insufficient support for them. As we have no choice but to carry on with the discussion on a European port policy in the broad sense of the word, I have urged the Commissioner to come up with a discussion document that we it is to be hoped – get our teeth into."@en1
