lpv:translated text	". Sustainable development is unquestionably one of the EU’s key objectives and a global challenge. Accordingly, sustainable development strategies require a long term political vision at the highest level. We must address social, environmental and democratic challenges responsibly, not only at public authority level, but also at the level of the citizens. We ensure, however, that all of the measures to be taken tally with our objectives of social and economic growth and development, which are crucial to the future of our societies. This report examines the progress made since 2001 and sets out fresh measures. As part of the process, we must reiterate the need to ensure that sustainable development is a priority for the future of Europe, and retain our objective of meeting the aims of the Lisbon Strategy.
