"( ) I voted in favour of this report because I regard it as very important for all regions that are unable to initiate their own development measures without financial support. I myself live in one of the poorest regions of Europe – the Prešov region – where GDP is less than half the European average. I therefore welcome the fact that job creation and the promotion of growth are to be viewed as the paramount aims of state aid. From the standpoint of cohesion, it is very important to adopt transparent criteria that allow all disadvantaged regions to receive financial aid. The inclusion of regional governments in the distribution of state aid is a very positive step, because this guarantees the transparent allocation of these funds. In connection with this report, I would like to express my doubts regarding the British proposal for the Financial Perspective, as it disregards one of the basic objectives of the EU – the levelling of regional differences."@en1
