". I, along with many of my colleagues have been deeply involved in many meetings and discussions on this particular dossier. Indeed the level of divergence on this issue is reflected by the many amendments which have been put forward and which led to such a long and arduous voting session. Even though I have many concerns with regard the approval of many of the amendments, and also on the many inconsistencies which these have raised, I voted in favour of the report, firstly to allow the first reading process to completed and secondly, because I believe that when we return to this issue at second reading the text will have been improved. I obviously wish to see human and public health being protected, as well as the environment, however we must not loose sight of the fact that to allow new processes to be developed, new products to be created and new innovations to be made available for the greater good, we cannot impose huge restrictions on businesses, which would prevent them from having certainty with regard the business, regulatory and administrative environs within which they must operate."@en1
