"Question No 15 by Jonas Sjöstedt ()
In an answer to a previous question () concerning the conclusion of a fisheries agreement between the EU and Morocco, including the territories of the occupied Western Sahara, the Council says that 'it supports the UN process'.
As regards the UN, the Fourth Committee of the General Assembly adopted a resolution on 11 October concerning the right of non-self-governing territories to their own natural resources. The resolution was supported by 137 members present, 22 of which are also members of the EU. France and the UK abstained, while Denmark was not present.
On the basis of the Council's previous reference to support for the UN process, and in view of the resolution which was supported by the majority of EU Member States in the UN vote on 11 October, it could be concluded that the fisheries agreement negotiated between the EU and Morocco will not cover the territories of Western Sahara. Can the Council confirm that the ports and waters of Western Sahara will not be covered by the fisheries agreement?"@en1
