The EU ought to support the breakthrough in new environmental technologies. These innovations can help us not only to increase our self-sufficiency in energy, but we can also improve air quality and reduce greenhouse emissions. Many of the renewable energy sources that help conserve the environment are already within our reach. Biomass can be used in diverse ways for heating, for producing electricity and as fuel. So far it is the only renewable energy source which may be used to replace liquid transport fuels. The EU should set ambitious targets to reduce dependence on oil and increase savings. Renewable energy sources should account for at least 25% of the EU’s entire energy consumption by the year 2020."@en1
