lpv:translated text	"Mr President, Commissioner, I would like to refer specifically to two diseases mentioned in the report: chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia. These are two invisible diseases, given the difficulty of their diagnosis and the lack of resources devoted to research and their treatment. It is calculated that 90% of the people suffering from these diseases are women. We are therefore clearly dealing with two gender diseases. Consequently, research into the origin and causes of these diseases is urgently needed, in order to improve treatments and compare results. To this end, it is essential to increase the resources allocated to research, improving the training of health professionals, organising information and social awareness campaigns, carrying out studies on their social, legal, economic and healthcare repercussions, and also to promoting and developing new techniques for early diagnosis and for the dissemination of existing prevention methods. For all of these reasons, I would like to call upon the Commission to carry out a study that compares the degree of application of treatments and their effects, both physical and psychological, in each of the Member States, in order to make progress with tackling these diseases. It is essential to take account of the gender perspective when drawing up and applying health policies. Fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome are not the only diseases that mostly affect women. Other gender diseases that have been mentioned more often in this debate, such as breast cancer and osteoporosis, are at a rather more advanced stage in terms of prevention, diagnosis and treatment. Nonetheless, in all cases it is necessary to continue actively to make progress, to continue research and to ensure that the public authorities work to effectively guarantee the health of men and women."@en1
