"As the author is not present, Question No 53 lapses. Question No. 54 by Inger Segelström () Resettlement of refugees is an important instrument in finding sustainable solutions to serious and protracted situations involving refugees. However, at the present time, only a few countries in the world accept refugees through resettlement. The EU could play an important role by introducing a common refugee quota. More Member States should take part than at present to enable the EU, in close cooperation with UNHCR, to work more strategically and to coordinate resettlement with other long-term efforts, such as targeted aid for assistance with return and reintegration. In the Hague Programme, the Council has called on the Commission to develop regional protection programmes in partnership with third countries and in cooperation with UNHCR, including a joint resettlement programme for those Member States wishing to take part. Has the Commission been able to launch a joint resettlement programme yet? What view does the Commission take of a permanent resettlement programme within the framework of EU cooperation? What are the Commission's views on the willingness of the Member States to take part in a joint resettlement programme?"@en1
