The Commission is proposing to amend Regulation (EEC) No 2092/91 on organic production of agricultural products and indications referring thereto on agricultural products and foodstuffs. In its communication on the European Action Plan on organic foodstuffs and agriculture, the Commission put forward the idea of replacing the current national derogation in the area of imports with a permanent system that makes use of technical benchmarking carried out by bodies appointed by the Community. A certain amount of time must be given in order to develop the new permanent system. I welcome the proposed amendment and the favourable opinion delivered by the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development deserves Parliament’s support."@en1
