I am in favour of transparency on the subject of Members' salaries and expenses: of full transparency which is the product of dialogue which highlights the realities on which any decision must be based. In the present instance, there was insufficient dialogue. Account was not taken of all the objective data. For example, the proposed reimbursement of travelling expenses does not take account of travelling time or inconvenience. The ratio between the salary of a Member of Parliament and a judge does not take account of Members' loss of income."@en1
