"Madam President, I would thank Commissioner Reding for her answer. I really do not know, however, whether I should feel reassured or disturbed. There is a conflict here between the rules governing the internal market and public service’s ability to function. I really want to call upon the Commission to state more clearly than it did just now that public service really is fully able to shape its own activities without this being regarded as restricting the internal market. It is extremely important that the Commission take the opportunity to be clear on this issue to the outside world too. There is great anxiety because our people are very much in favour of public service. Nowadays especially, it is very important to show that we do not believe that the market should take over everything, but that culture and public service should be allowed to continue to play their role."@en1
