I should like to congratulate Mrs Schierhuber on her timely report on the proposal for a Council regulation on support for rural development by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD). I agree with the rapporteur that Parliament must oppose attempts to reduce the amounts earmarked for rural development.
