I wish to thank him because this satisfied an initiative on my part to have this debate. I should also like to take this opportunity to thank my honourable friends who signed – and thus gave real support to – this initiative. The European Parliament cannot merely react. It must also act. Certainly the situation in the European Union today is a matter for the democratically elected governments; however, it is also a matter for the democratically elected institution the European Parliament.
