". Mr Chairman Allow me to explain the reasons for my vote in favour of Britta Thomsen's report – the Multiannual Programme for Enterprise and Entrepreneurship. For almost 20.5 million companies employing approximately 122 million people, this multiannual programme 2001 – 2005 has been one of the sources of EU financing policy in the entrepreneurship area, and a tool for attaining the objectives set out in the European Charter for Small Enterprise. It has also helped the 10 new Member States to build the institutional network of Euro Info Centres that coordinate the activities aimed at supporting and developing small and medium-sized enterprises. The funds approved by this report for 2006 will bridge the existing and the new ‘CIP’ structural programme – the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme envisaged for the period 2007 – 2013. With this vote, the European Parliament has given the ‘green light’ to small and medium-sized enterprises as the most promising sources of job creation, innovation in economic development, and greater social inclusion."@en1
