"Mr President, the majority of the new Member States, unlike the old ones, do not enjoy a visa free regime with the United States. The Washington administration has offered a roadmap to the new EU Member States to facilitate their qualification for a visa free regime. The European Union could make a more significant contribution to the resolution of this issue. This is also an issue of Washington’s political will, and this will is to a large extent shaped by the US Congress. I would suggest that the European Parliament or the Committee on Foreign Affairs should address the US Congress to express the wish of MEPs that Congressmen should consider this problem in a constructive manner and in a spirit of goodwill. A visa free regime for the new EU Member States would contribute to the strengthening of transatlantic links and would promote political, economic and human change. This would once again demonstrate that all EU Member States are equal."@en1
